چکیده

Turbulent flows with chemical reactions can be seen in various fields. Therefore, it is important to establish numerical methods to predict turbulent reactive flows. Reynolds-averaged approach is often used for predictions of reactive flows. In this approach, Reynolds-averaged scalar transport equations are solved by using models for a turbulent mass flux and an averaged production rate by chemical reactions. Here, ui and  are fluctuation components of i direction velocity (Ui) and concentration of species  (), respectively, and <*> denotes an ensemble average of variable *. One of the simplest models for is a gradient diffusion model [1], in which is given by

Gas Absorption with Chemical Reaction in Turbulent Flow

In order to increase the rate of gas absorption, chemical reaction in the liquid phase is considered. The purpose of this paper was to simulate gas absorption process by a liquid film over a spherical packing incorporating eddy viscosity and diffusivity. Second order chemical reaction for two different cases (fast and slow) were considered. The system partial differential equations obtained...

Large eddy simulation of propane combustion in a planar trapped vortex combustor

Propane combustion in a trapped vortex combustor (TVC) is characterized via large eddy simulation coupled with filtered mass density function. A computational algorithm based on high order finite difference (FD) schemes, is employed to solve the Eulerian filtered compressible Navier-Stokes equations. In contrast, a Lagrangian Monte-Carlo solver based on the filtered mass density function is inv...

Numerical Simulation of Free Surface in the Case of Plane Turbulent Wall Jets in Shallow Tailwater

Wall-jet flow is an important flow field in hydraulic engineering, and its applications include flow from the bottom outlet of dams and sluice gates. In this paper, the plane turbulent wall jet in shallow tailwater is simulated by solving the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations using the standard  turbulence closure model. This study aims to explore the ability of a time splitting method ...

Direct numerical simulation of passive scalar transport in transverse jets

Direct numerical simulation is used to study passive scalar transport and mixing in a round turbulent jet, in a laminar crossflow. The ratio of the jet velocity to that of the crossflow is 5.7, the Schmidt number of the scalar is 1.49, and the jet-exit Reynolds number is 5000. The scalar field is used to compute entrainment of the crossflow fluid by the jet. It is shown that the bulk of this en...

A New Model for Prediction of Heat Eddy Diffusivity in Pipe Expansion Turbulent Flows

A new model to calculate heat eddy diffusivity in separating and reattaching flows based on modification of constant Prt is proposed. This modification is made using an empirical correlation between maximum Nusselt number and entrance Reynolds number. The model includes both the simplicity of Prt=0.9 assumption and the accuracy of two-equation heat-transfer models. Furthermore, an appropriate l...
